Any Faith-ers Around Here?
I coined the word “faith-er”, to describe a believer who is living by faith, seeing by faith, walking by faith and full of faith. Faith is ample throughout scripture particularly in 2Cor. 5.7 and in Hebrews 11.1-end, which popularly described as the “Hall of Faith”. For the term, others derived concepts such as Sports hall of fame, etc
So what is faith? And who are faith-ers? Consider this:
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that make life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them abve the crowd.(Heb 11.1 The Message)
Let’s get one thing clear, although they both sound and feel the same, faith is not the same thing as positive thinking. The positive thinking concept is a poor copy and a poor duplicate of faith. As can be seen from Hebrews 11 a faith is more than a tool to get things or miracles or provisions for ourselves. Positive thinking is focused on how to actualise and achieve one’s best and there is nothing wrong with that. However a man cannot achieve his best potential outside God.
So what is Faith really about?
Faith is really about pleasing God for it is not possible to please God unless we are ‘faith-ers’ (Heb 11.6). Pleasing God was what distinguished Enoch’s faith (Heb 11.5.). Our Lord Jesus also shared with us that His secret for succeeding with FATHER GOD, was to do always the things that please Him(Jn 8.29). We should live just as Jesus did, to please our FATHER. On His part, our FATHER LORD by Himself testified about the maximum pleasure (Matt 3.17) that He was enjoying from Jesus’ lifestyle, decision, actions and motives when He declared from heaven ‘behold my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.’
Faith or Getting Faith?
Although faith is key to getting things supernaturally, faith is not only about getting things. Getting things supernaturally is one of the attributes of faith, the faith-er’s lifestyle is really about giving God maximum pleasure, which is the lifestyle that guarantees great exploits for the Lord. Throughout the generations and in our generation too, the Lord looks out for people who will walk before Him in great faith so that they can do exploits for the Kingdom. This is heaven’s patterns and it has not changed:
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of those whose heat is perfect toward him. (1Chro 16.9a)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Heb. 12.1 NIV).
People of faith or ‘faith-ers’ (as I will like to describe them) see, walk and live in the invisible and in the spiritual. They do not walk by sight or the five physical senses, as most are wont to do (2 Cor 5.7). The physical is easy to understand, handle and live by. It is easier to manage things that we can see, handle, touch, taste hear and see but tell me about matters that I cannot see and things get very difficult. It takes faith to step into the Red Sea not knowing what God intends to do, to see me through. Will He fly us across the us? Will He suddenly send a massive boat (similar to the Ark) to carry us through? Will He make us to walk on the water? Whatever will He do?
At the time Moses and the children stepped into the water, no-one had seen anyone walk through a sea or river before: Ex. 14.1-16. Faithers at such point will not know how God will work it out but they will only say in faith,“God will see us through”, “God will work this out” and even “if we do not make it, He is Lord anyway.”
